Best Photographs

The images I have chosen all relate to and focus on colour in a different way. Whether it is how they are positioned, or how they are conveyed as emotions and meanings when people look at them. As well as this, I focused on depth, pattern and texture. However my main priority was colour.

I have chosen this image because I felt that the colours in the piece contrasted well. The yellow on the image stood out compared to the blue on the background, and I feel that this piece can represent time in a way of which the piece seems worn and old. The piece itself also has depth with the white and black lines shown behind the blue, which gives the image a more 3D effect. The colour 'blue' connotates calmness, while the colour 'yellow' can represent either happiness or deceit. Therefore, the meaning to represent different things to different people, depending on how they convey the colours.I feel that all of the tones and depth in the image to create a 3D effect makes this piece effective, but I feel to make this image more effective I could edit it to increase the contrast and focus on the piece.

I have chosen this image as I feel the colours in the piece convey an meaning of peace and beauty. The colour 'pink' connotates playful and romance, the colour 'brown' connotates healing and natural while the colour 'white' connotates light and purity. All of which creates a peaceful, light and happy emotion. The focus in different areas of the image also shows more depth and 3D effects in the piece. I feel as though the image makes you think of a place surrounded by nature, which is quiet, peaceful and romantic. To improve this piece I feel I could edit it to involve some overlay of either a different image or colour to make it more abstract.

This image does not focus on colour but rather focus on texture, pattern and line. The harsh lines and dashes on the image bear a resemblance to cracks, which can represent being broken. This could mean mentally, physically, age, etc. It all depends on how the audience may react to it. The colour black represents evil, death, etc. While the colour white represents innocence and purity. Including these colour connotations this piece can be taken in many ways depending on how the person feels or thinks about when looking at the piece. To improve, I can edit the image to contrast the black and white. This I feel will increase the depth in the piece and therefore further enhance the meaning.

I have chosen this image because it focuses on pattern and colour. This image uses a combination of light and dark shades of blue, black and yellow. The colour blue represents depth, stability and peace, and yellow represents happiness. This is a contrast to the colour black, which represents evil and chaos. The colours in this image represent the darkness and chaos seeping into the happiness and peace, something that seems to be happening in the present day, where the prejudice and crime are taking over the peace. I feel as to improve this piece I can further saturate the colours and make the black bolder in areas of the piece to further show the meaning.

This image I had focused on both texture and colour. The image has both cool and warm colours on each side, creating a contrast between the colours and making them clash. The cooler colours tend to give calmer and more soothing connotations. However, the warmer colours are usually something much more vivid and bold, which usually stand out compared to cooler colours, as seen in this image. The texture and lines in the image also give off a sense of depth in the piece, however to improve I could crop the image to make it seem more abstract.

This image also has texture and colour. The colours in this piece are organised in a way that warmer colours are on the outside, with a cooler colour on the inside. However, the texture itself is the primary focus on the piece. The shadows in between the lines shows depth in the image, which gives the image a sense of 3D. To improve this piece, I could focus more on the image to bring out more of the lines and texture in the piece. I also feel the connotations of the combinations of colours have no specific meaning that can be deduced from this piece, so I will also improve by making sure all of the connotations in the colours will make sense when combined with other colours.

This image is a focus on depth rather than colour. There's contrast between the light and dark lines, and shadows which shows a 3D effect in the image. The pattern is also repetitive and simple.Because the image is simple, it makes it effective as a background image. To improve this piece, I could use this as an overlay with another image so the piece has more pattern and meaning compared to the image on its own. I could also increase the contrast to show more depth in my image.

This image is also simple with its white and black colour scheme, so there is no specific meaning with colour connotations. Therefore, I focused on mostly depth and pattern in this piece. The angle of which the photo was taken makes the two colours seem to be slotting together and becoming one. To improve, I would change the angle so the black and white are balanced and there are no unneeded shadows and overlay another image or colour on top of the image.

This image also focuses on depth, texture and pattern. The tone in the piece, as well as the different colours displays a sense of depth. However, I feel the image is too blurry to convey the depth as well as I would've liked.
To improve this piece, I would increase the contrast in the image so the depth would show further as well as focus onto the image so every mark on the piece was clearly visible. I would also add an overlay of either colour or another image to give the piece something more more focus and meaning.

This image I focused on the form rather than using combinations of colours to create a meaning. The image is a baby pink, which generally connotates peacefulness, tenderness and cuteness. People also take the colour baby pink for baby girls, which could also bring an essence of innocence in this piece. The feathery texture of the image also represents the softness this image has to it. Overall, this image conveys a meaning of purity and innocence. To improve this image, I would make the feather more in focus to show more texture and form in the piece.

This image focuses on texture and colour. The colour yellow represents happiness and other positive energy, while the colour purple represents power and nobility, while holding the calmness of blue and fierceness of red, depending on how the viewer sees it.This way, people can create their own meanings from the piece. The texture itself is rough, giving an impression of depth and tone in the image. To improve this image I would overlay another image on top of the piece to give it more meaning.

This piece focuses on colour. The colour purple represents peace, wisdom and magic, while red represents love. Red,however, can also represent anger, violence and danger. This means the image can have multiple meanings. The colours could represent peacefulness, but it could also represent said peace being taken away by violence and anger due to the red seeping into the purple. Images with colour combinations are always the most interesting due to the variety of meanings  people can deduce from the image. To improve this piece, however, I would add more colours so more connotations are created and therefore more opinions on the piece can be made.

This image focuses on tone and pattern. The pattern is simplistic, a squared tile with blue and grey squares. The image has tone that makes the pattern seem aged, making the image seem less flat. The blue squares contrast against the plain grey squares, making them stand out in the piece. Light blue connotates calmness, tranquil and softness. The softness contrasts with the piece itself as the marks make the squares look rough. However, to improve I will overlay another image to make the piece have a more concrete meaning and pattern.

I have chosen this image as I feel the colours complement each other well. The green and brown ink have been used to blend into one another to convey a natural feeling in the piece, as the colours are often used in nature. The way of which the colours have been placed across the water is also very natural and unique, as the ink had moved on its own to create the pattern in the water. The blue background also fits in with the piece as it does not stand out but rather accompanies the central image to make the pattern stand out. The colour 'brown' represents warmth and natural meanings, while the colour 'green' represents life, nature and energy. Therefore the meaning of the piece as a whole is very natural and full of life. To improve, I can crop the image without the blue background and increase the contrast.

I have chosen this image due to it focusing on pattern and tone. The colour black represents mystery and power, while grey is a natural colour which is generally seen as moody and emotionless. The black pattern and lines are abstract and uncontrolled due to the ink moving around in the water. To improve this image, I will edit it to increase the contrast so the black stands out further compared to the background and becomes a bigger focus in the piece. I could also overlay another image onto the piece to make a different combination of colours and therefore, create a different and more interesting meaning.

I have chosen this image due to the lines formed by the different colours of ink in the water. The lines in the water seem to convey an image despite being uncontrolled. Brown represents warmth and stability, while green represents growth and harmony. The colour yellow also represents warmth and cheerfulness. The colours themselves are very natural and is seen commonly in nature, and the lines themselves give an impression of a landscape and a large tree.Due to the lines being created naturally and not with hand, it makes the image much more abstract and uncontrolled. However, I feel the brown stands out too much in the image so to improve this piece, I would change the colour brown to a lighter natural colour.

This image is based off of colour and pattern. The blending of the green and yellow is uncontrolled, and creates tone of which makes the piece seem less flat. The colour yellow represents happiness and hope, while the colour green represents safety and growth. Overall, this creates a positive energy in the piece. However, to improve I will add more colour or overlay another image on top of the image to make the piece has a larger meaning. I would also increase the contrast so the colours stand out further.

This image is also based on colour and pattern. They are blended together in a pattern of which was created naturally and uncontrolled. The colour green represents safety and  nature, while the colour brown represents security and warmth. Overall, the colours and the way the image was made makes the image have a very natural and safe feeling to it.  However, to improve I'd change the lighting where I took the image so there would be less unnecessary tone.

This image is focused more on the warm connotations of red and yellow, compared to the cooler colours I have used in the previous images. The colour red is bold, and can often represent love or represent violence and anger. The colour yellow can also represent fire, and deceit while also representing happiness and energy. The combination of red and yellow gives a very vibrant energy in the piece and the way of which they are blended together makes the viewer think of flames and destruction. The red and yellow blending into the white represents the flames consuming the blank space in the piece. To improve, I would make the colours much more vibrant by removing unnecessary shadows in the piece.

This piece also focuses on warm colours, as well as lines and pattern. The colour purple represents the calm energy of blue whilst still retaining the fierceness of red. With the combination of red, the fierceness of red overpowers the blue energy in the purple and therefore further enhances the fierceness and aggressiveness of the warm colours. The shape of which the colours take are uncontrolled, giving the impression that the colours are also blending into the white. To improve, I would remove any of the unnecessary shadows and highlights that occurred when the piece was taken and increase the brightness to make the colours much more vibrant.
