Stenciling

Image
To experiment further and develop my journey with street art, I began to search for more artists and techniques to improve my work. To do this, I looked into the media and saw a news article about Banksy, which inspired me to look into his work and what he does.  Banksy His work was recently sold at an auction for £860,000; as the auction happened, however, the piece had shredded itself. This was done by a shredder most likely being hidden in the frame, as auctioneers were not able to search the frame beforehand. This had inspired me to look more into his work itself and see the meaning behind it.  Banksy is an anonymous street artist that creates street art with usually dark meanings such as terrorism, war and hypocrisy using stencilling. While he is mostly known for his work on walls, he has also done some illustrations onto canvas. Banksy has to use stencils for his work due to the surfaces he uses tend to be illegal, making it a necessity to get i...

Mono-printing Exercise

Image
I experimented with mono-printing as an art technique to try and broaden my art skills for the future.  Mono-printing is a type of printing technique that involves evenly rolling a thin layer of ink onto a surface and placing a surface of which you wish to print onto on top of the inked surface. To create lines, you would simply use any form of mark making whether it is a comb, branch, pencil, etc, on the back of the surface you are printing on to apply pressure to where the ink prints onto the surface. This would make patterns in the ink when it is printed onto the surface.  When printing, I created a print with the word "NYC" that relates to my project of graffiti as it is the place where the documentary Style Wars was filmed. I chose to print a word because I felt it posed a challenge as well as link it to my graffiti project in future development.  To print a word, you have to write it in reverse or else the print will come out in reverse. To do this, I h...

Presenting a Collection

Image
Today I did a small exhibition showcasing my collection of figurines I had collected over the past couple of years.  The exhibition was done quickly as a means to practice planning a layout quickly and understanding the importance of having time to plan ahead. I used this task to understand how important it is to have the correct resources and time to plan the layout in order for the exhibition to be effective to those who walk into a gallery without any prior knowledge to the exhibition itself.  My exhibition consisted of 2 display stands. On them are 15 figurines that are currently in chronological order. Those on the back represented those from the past historical figures, while those at the front were people from this day. As well as this, I have all of the magazines that highlight each character displayed, with facts about them in order for the viewer to interact with the display and learn more in depth information about each character. My intention...

Best Photographs

Image
The images I have chosen all relate to and focus on colour in a different way. Whether it is how they are positioned, or how they are conveyed as emotions and meanings when people look at them. As well as this, I focused on depth, pattern and texture. However my main priority was colour.  I have chosen this image because I felt that the colours in the piece contrasted well. The yellow on the image stood out compared to the blue on the background, and I feel that this piece can represent time in a way of which the piece seems worn and old. The piece itself also has depth with the white and black lines shown behind the blue, which gives the image a more 3D effect. The colour 'blue' connotates calmness, while the colour 'yellow' can represent either happiness or deceit. Therefore, the meaning to represent different things to different people, depending on how they convey the colours.I feel that all of the tones and depth in the image to create a 3D effect makes ...

Photoshop Express Original > Edited This image I simply increased the contrast and added separate light and dark tones on the borders. I feel increasing the contrast has made the textures in the image show further. This helps the image focus less on the form and more on the colour, tone and texture. To improve I will overlay the image onto another to make the image more abstract.  Original > Edited I have edited this image by increasing the saturation, contrast and adding a border. I added the border to change the composition of the image, I also changed the contrast to make the subject stand out from the background. I felt like this made the lines in the image much clearer.  I feel like these images have been edited in a way that enhanced the patterns and lines in the piece, but I feel the images and effects are not what I wish to create so to move forward I will experiment with more effects and applications. Pixlr Original ...
